Introduction
This procedure will demonstrate how to disassemble a floating ball valve.
-
Step 1
Remove any gaskets or seals that are on the flanges.
-
Step 2
Remove the body insert. Ensure there is no set screw or retainer before attempting to unthread the insert from the body.
-
Step 3
Once the insert is removed you can remove the seat.
-
Step 4
Before removing the ball, ensure that the valve is placed in the closed position. This will allow the slot on top of the ball to be parallel with the centreline of the valve body and then allow the ball to slide out of the stem and be removed.
-
Step 5
Slide the ball valve out of the valve body.
-
Step 6
At this point, you can remove the handle nut.
-
Step 7
Then remove the handle, packing gland and follower, packing and/or seals and finally the stem. Lastly the second seat can be removed from the valve body and all the parts laid out neatly and ready for inspection.
-
Step 8
Always note the orientation of the seats and ball in the valve body to ensure they are assembled in the correct locations to keep mated/lapped surfaces together
