DC Motor Explained

This course explains how DC motors convert electrical energy into mechanical energy. It begins with the fundamentals of magnetism and magnetic fields, establishing the principles needed to understand how electric motors operate.

The course explores natural magnets, magnetic domains, magnetic field lines, attraction and repulsion between magnetic poles, and the limitations of natural magnets. It then introduces electromagnets and explains how electric current produces a magnetic field.

Using clear explanations and detailed engineering models, the course demonstrates the right-hand thumb rule and explains how wrapping a conductor into a coil or solenoid produces a stronger magnetic field. The course also introduces the internal construction of an industrial DC motor, which contains hundreds of precisely engineered components.
