This course provides a practical walkthrough of fan coil units (FCUs), explaining their main components, operation, applications, and common designs. Using detailed 3D models, you’ll explore how air flows through a fan coil, how heating and cooling are achieved, and how the different components work together.
You’ll examine key components including centrifugal fans, electric motors, filters, gauze, coils, water connections, condensate trays, drains, valves, ducting, and diffusers. The course explains how chilled or hot water transfers thermal energy to or from the air passing through the coil.
The course also covers two-pipe and four-pipe FCU designs, ceiling-, floor-, and wall-mounted configurations, concealed, exposed, and cassette units, as well as blow-through and draw-through arrangements. You’ll learn about PSC and ECM motors and how fan speed and water flow can be regulated to control space temperature.
Finally, the course discusses filter maintenance, differential pressure alarms, condensate management, and the effects of dirty filters and coils on system efficiency.
